"Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle" is the unexpected hit of 2017 that continues to impress at the box-office even after a month in theaters. Meanwhile, Steven Spielberg's "The Post" expanded nationwide and received a decent boost, and the Liam Neeson thriller "The Commuter" overperformed. The other two new releases, "Paddington 2" and "Proud Mary" stumbled.

Find out more about the weekend box office after the jump.

The adventure sequel/reboot "Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle" is still the leader of the pack after first conquering the top spot last week. The film grossed $27 million over the weekend and $34 million over the four-day weekend. Its domestic cume has reached $283.1 million, and has raked in $383 million overseas. The international earnings include the recent $40 million debut in China.

In second place we have Steven Spielberg's awards contender "The Post", which just had its first wide weekend. It brought in $18.6 million and is expected to finish with $22 million for the extended holiday weekend. The film scored high marks from critics (88% on Rotten Tomatoes and 83 on Metacritic) and an "A" grade from CinemaScore's polls.

The new Liam Neeson - Jaume Collet-Serra collaboration "The Commuter" opened in third place with $13.4 million over the three-day time frame, and will probably finish the four-day weekend with an estimated $16 million. Not bad at all since the film only cost $30 million to produce. The film received mixed reviews from critics (54% from Rotten Tomatoes and 56 on Metacritic), while CinemaScore's polls revealed an average "B" grade from moviegoers.

Last week's new release "Insidious: The Last Key" fell from second to fourth place following a hefty 59% drop and grossed $12.1 million over the weekend. The film has earned $48.3 million domestically and another $44.2 million internationally, all against a $10 million production budget.

The Top 5 is rounded up by the musical biopic "The Greatest Showman" which continues to deliver impressive numbers. The weekend only registered a 14% drop, and so the film brought in $11.8 million, bringing it very close to the $100 million mark. Meanwhile, overseas it has raked in a decent $100.1 million. The film's production budget is estimated at around $84 million.

"Star Wars: The Last Jedi" continues its steep decline, dropping 52% and grossing $11.2 million over the weekend. The film has grossed $591.5 million domestically and another $673.4 million overseas, becoming the tenth largest worldwide release of all-time.

The new arrival "Paddington 2" scored a soft debut at #7 with $10.6 million over the weekend, and an estimated $14.5 million for the four-day time frame. It's certainly a disappointment for Warner Bros., who acquired the film from The Weinstein Co., but perhaps not all that surprising considering that the first film opened with $18.9 million in 2015.  Like the original, the sequel is much more relevant overseas, where it has already brought in $125.2 million. "Paddington 2" received a rare 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes and an 89 on Metacritic, and moviegoers shared the critics' positive reception according to CinemaScore's "A" grade.

In eighth place we have the last of the new wide releases, the action thriller "Proud Mary" which opened with $10 million and is expected to rake in $12 million after the four-day holiday weekend. The film cost just $14 million to produce. It received negative reviews from critics (24% on Rotten Tomatoes and 35 on Metacritic), but a decent "B+" from CinemaScore.

New Wide Releases: "Paddington 2", "The Commuter", "Proud Mary".

Biggest Drop : "Insidious: The Last Key" (-59%)
