The new DVD and Blu-ray releases for the week of August 1st, 2017 include the hi-tech thriller "The Circle" starring Emma Watson and Tom Hanks, the comedy "Going in Style" starring Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine and Alan Arkin, the drama "Wakefield" starring Bryan Cranston and the sci-fi dramedy "Colossal" starring Anne Hathaway.
In the television category we have two new releases from HBO, the mini-series "Big Little Lies" and the first season of "Crashing", as well as the second season of the thriller series "Fortitude".

In 1942, with his position in the Philippines made hopeless by Japan's destruction of more than half the planes in his Far East Command, MacArthur leaves pledging, "I shall return!" MacArthur does return with riveting victories in the Pacific and the deft handling of the democratization of Japan. He is also armed with Presidential aspirations. While serving in Korea in 1951, his colossal ego and insubordination result in dismissal by President Truman. MacArthur is a compelling story which explores the many facets of his ambitious character and clearly demonstrates his brilliance as a strategist, his lust for publicity and flair for dramatics.

Product Description: Set in war-torn Shanghai, this visually stunning melodrama opens as Megan, the fiancée of a missionary, arrives in China for their marriage. Their plans are interrupted by civil war and Megan finds herself caught in a riot after visiting an orphanage. General Yen, a ruthless Chinese warlord, rescues and whisks her away to safety in his palace. Megan soon suspects she is not his guest but his prisoner yet she begins to feel a strange attraction to her captor. The once controversial topic of interracial romance between a Caucasian woman and a Chinese man earned this film some notoriety upon its release but Capra considered it a "strangely poetic romance" which was a risky art film for its era.
