Box-Office Report: DESPICABLE ME 2 and THE LONE RANGER

The extremely expensive Disney western "The Lone Ranger" has probably earned the title of this year's biggest flop. The film, which cost $215M to make, only managed to take in $48M domestically, opening at #2, and $72M worldwide in 5 days. This is bad news for Disney, especially since the studio initially passed on the idea of making the movie because of its huge costs. I bet they wish they hadn't changed their mind.

"Despicable Me 2"  opened at #1 and delivered a much better box-office result, grossing $142M in the US and $293M worldwide in 5 days. The 3-day weekend gross was $82M, a major improvement compared to the first film's $56M opening weekend. "Despicable Me 2" also ranks third among the best Independence Day Weekends, behind "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" ($97M) and "Spider-Man 2" ($88M).

More box-office details and the complete top 10, after the jump.
